Lil Mama Takes to "Empire State of Mind" to Explain VMA Situation

It seems the whole world watched Lil Mama's ass-making incident during last week's VMAs. Now the Brooklyn femcee has responded to the situation by kicking a rhyme over the very track that prompted her fall from grace, as it were. Here it is: Lil Mama's "Empire State of Mind."

Does this do more harm than good?

Update: More MJ Concert Footage Surfaces

In this clip, courtesy of MTV.com, Michael Jackson blocks out his performance of "Human Nature" for his "This Is It" concert series. Although, MJ doesn't go full out, we get an idea of just how phenomenal a musician he was and how much we're missing out now that he's gone -- gone too soon.

LAPD Officers Placed on Leave for Their Possible Involvement in Battered Rihanna Photo Leak

Two Los Angeles Police Department officers have been placed on paid administrative leave, following an investigation into how the photos of a battered Rihanna got into the hands of gossip Web site, TMZ.com.

The L.A. Times reports that the night before the Grammy Awards in February, Rihanna argued with her then-boyfriend Chris Brown, who bit, punched and choked the singer in a rented Lamborghini in the Hancock Park area of L.A., leaving her bruised and bloodied.

One of the officers, identified by sources as Rebecca M. Reyes, is a nine-year veteran of the department and was last assigned to the Wilshire Division. The other, Blanca Lopez, is a rookie officer with the Hollenbeck Division and was a housemate of Reyes, according to sources.

Donald Etra, the attorney for Rihanna, whose real name is Robyn Rihanna Fenty, said Thursday that he was pleased that police had gotten to the bottom of the case. He said that no victim should have to worry about such photographs being leaked. He also noted that his client had “nothing but praise for the LAPD.”

The saga continues ...

Janet Jackson Will Open Up the VMAs with a Tribute to Michael

Janet Jackson, the kid sister of pop icon Michael Jackson, is slated to open this year's MTV Video Music Awards with a tribute to her legendary brother, who passed away in late June.

Given her understandable privacy after MJ's passing, her performance, which will open the awards ceremony on Sunday, Sept. 13, will be one to watch. Let's hope she throws this one in the mix. She has to!

Update: MJ's Death Ruled a Homicide

The L.A. Times reports that there were "lethal levels" of a powerful anesthetic, propofol, found in Michael Jackson's body.

Now, all eyes are on Conrad Murray, MJ's personal doctor who prescribed the King of Pop that and a host of other medications that ultimately led to his death by cardiac arrest on June 25. Apparently, MJ had suffered from insomnia for quite some time and the anesthetic was used to help the pop icon sleep.

It really is tragic that a living legend had to die this way.

Update: Michael Jackson to be Buried on His Birthday

The New York Times reports that the King of Pop will be laid to rest on Saturday, Aug. 29, the date that would have been his 51st birthday.

His burial will take place at 10 a.m. Pacific Time, at Holly Terrace in the Great Mausoleum at Glendale Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale, Calif. The ceremony will be private and limited to the Jackson family and close friends, but that media will be accommodated nearby.

It seems like it was only yesterday that the news of MJ's passing broke on June 25.

I hope that the fans truly to respect the Jackson family's privacy. I mean after all they've been through. That public memorial last month wasn't as much of a catastrophe as was predicted, so maybe this won't be. Glad MJ will finally be resting in peace.

Update: Drake to Go Under the Knife on Sept. 8

We all saw Drake take a nasty spill on stage in Philly while performing with Young Money Presents: America's Most Wanted Music Festival. Now he's going to undergo surgery for not one, not two, but THREE torn ligaments on Tuesday, Sept. 8.

I wonder if @DrakesKnee on Twitter will be obsolete when he heals.

Drake Updates His Fans on His Injury

Drizzy took a bad fall in Philly, due to his bum knee. He took to his blog, OctobersVeryOwn.Blogspot.com, to let us know what's up in a post titled, “Angels and Demons.”

This bottle of Opus One is low but my spirits are high my friends. I am about 2 hours away from Toronto, CA where I will be spending the next chunk of time recovering from a surgery that I now must have. I embarked on this tour with a torn ACL, MCL, and LCL and due to the events that happened the other night lord only knows what other damage I have done. On the bright side I will begin the reflecting and soul searching that its going to take to make this album and my outfit on the night I fell was crack. I will forever push myself beyond the limits despite advice and recommendations given because even with this new found success I am still the kid who wanted this more than anything in the world. Its funny when I read comments from previous fans who have lost interest because of the radio play and exposure I have. I just want to assure anyone reading that nothing has changed on my end. I refuse to get comfortable, I refuse to fall in line and follow anyone elses formulas. I still work as if So Far Gone had never dropped and I'm still trying to figure out how I'm going to gain entry to this game.

“Missing someone gets easier everyday. Because, even though it is one day further from the last time you saw each other, it is one day closer to the next time you will”

See you soon.

Update: Baatin's Death May Be Drug-Related

What caused the death of Titus “Baatin” Glover of hip-hop group Slum Village, who died Saturday, Aug. 1, may be revealed pending a toxicology report.

Baatin was found dead on Anglin Street in Detroit. Police confirmed today that the rapper’s death is not being treated as a homicide and there was no trauma found on his body, according to AllHipHop.com.

A source close to the 35-year-old musician told AllHipHop.com that he may have died from a crack addiction or from complications related to crack cocaine use.

Despite Baatin‘s death, Slum Village performed yesterday during the Rock The Bells Festival at Deer Lake in Vancouver, Canada. I guess they're staying busy to keep their minds off things?

Update: Dolla's Accused Killer Receives Reduced Bail

A judge has lowered bail from $5 million to just over $2 million for Aubrey Louis Berry, the 23-year-old Atlanta club promoter accused of gunning down rapper Dolla at the Beverly Center.

Berry's attorney, Howard Price, said his client acted in self-defense.

According to City News Service, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Terry Bork reduced the bail, saying he thought the lower bail amount "was appropriate."

Berry also is charged with two counts of assault with a firearm for allegedly firing at two other people who were with the 21-year-old rapper, who was signed to Akon's Konvict Music label.

It's unclear when or if Berry will post bail.

Update: Therapy with Charles Hamilton and Briana

The whole world was watching (and replayed the clip several times as tears from laughter welled up in their eyes) when New York rapper Charles Hamilton took one to the jaw from his girlfriend, Briana, who just so happens to be Mary J. Blige's stepdaughter. Well, the couple, trying to patch things up, participated in an iChat counseling session ... And it doesn't look promising for the two.

Update: Dolla's Killer Claims Self-defense

According to the Los Angeles Times, the attorney for Aubrey Louis Berry, the Atlanta man accused of killing rapper Dolla earlier this week, said his client opened fire after feeling threatened by the 21-year-old rapper and his entourage during a "chance encounter" at the Beverly Center.

Berry's attorney, Howard R. Price, said it's a self-defense or manslaughter case -- not a murder case. Berry, 23, ultimately was charged with one count of murder and two counts of assault with a firearm. His bail was raised to $5 million.
