TQ Returns with "Paradise"
You may remember Compton native, TQ, from his first two singles, "Westside" and "Bye Bye Baby," released in 1998. While most of the world thought he fell off, TQ was busy writing, producing an collaborating with some of the biggest names in the music industry, including Lil Wayne, R.Kelly, Too Short, Swizz Beatz and Whitney Houston.
Now, after a four-year hiatus, TQ has returned, geared up and ready, to change the R&B game forever! Here's part of a recent interview with TQ, as seen on HHNLive.com.
-----
Rochelle White: It has been a while since your last album. Everybody wants to know where have you been?
TQ: On Mars! (laughs) Actually, I have been acting over the past two years in Indie films.
RW: What made you venture off into acting?
TQ: I wanted to get into something different and I found out I liked it.
RW: So that took you away from the music industry?
TQ: Well when I do something I do it to the fullest, like with music. I tried to learn every possible aspect: production, songwriting, and all that. I did the same thing with acting; I devoted myself to developing a talent.
TQ on the state of R&B:
R&B isn’t at its worst, but it is still pretty bad. Several of these new artists are not talking about anything
RW: So you are not feeling any of the current R&B artists?
TQ: Some of it is OK, but it’s not like I want to go out and buy their albums, or go see them perform. I like the current veterans like Mary J. Blige -- she is talented -- and Alicia Keys, but that’s about it.
TQ was signed to Cash Money Records. He was featured on tracks with Lil’ Wayne, Mannie Fresh, and Baby. After spending two years on the label without dropping an album, TQ, felt it was time to move on.
"I am still cool with everybody from the label I just didn’t like the way Baby did business. I thought it was better to go my own way."
TQ’s latest album, "Paradise," is set to drop April 29.
Here's a throwback for ya:
