Swagger Ready's MJ Memorial Recap

Today, thousands of fans, family members and close relatives packed the Staples Center to pay tribute to Michael Jackson, the King of Pop.

There were so many touching moments throughout. I think AEG did a stellar job of putting it all together.

All the Jackson brothers sat in the front row wearing matching suits, yellow ties, sunglasses and one sequined glove. Queen Latifah shared her thoughts in a beautifully written speech before introducing Lionel Richie, who performed "Jesus Is Love." A visibly shaken Mariah Carey performed "I'll Be There" with Trey Lorenz.

A bunch of people came on stage and joined in "We Are the World." John Mayer went in on an instrumental rendition of "Human Nature." Usher sang "Gone Too Soon" and made his way down to his casket in a heart-wrenching moment.

What was striking were the words that the people close to Michael spoke about him.

Magic Johnson reflected on a time when Michael asked him to appear in his "Remember the Time" music video. They sat down to discuss his role over dinner at MJ's home. "Wait a minute, Mike. You eat Kentucky Fried Chicken? ... That made my day."

Berry Gordy said, "When he did his iconic moonwalk, I was shocked. It was magic ... He is simply the greatest entertainer that ever lived."

Prior to his stirring performance of "Never Dreamed You'd Leave in Summer," Stevie Wonder said, "This was moment that I wish I didn't live to see come."

Brooke Shields, Michael's former girlfriend and dear friend, said, "His laugh was the sweetest and purest laugh of anyone I've ever known."

Rev. Al Sharpton, speaking to MJ's children, said, "Wasn't nothing strange about your daddy ... It was strange what he had to deal with."

But THE highlight was when his daughter, Paris Katherine, came up at the very end of the memorial and said, "Daddy has been the best father you could ever imagine ... I love him so much." Not a dry eye in the building, I'm sure.

Of course, the tweets were a-flowing during the ceremony. Here's what they were saying:

phontigallo So sad to hear MJ referred to as "Daddy." That really puts things in perspective.
