Fresh out the delivery room where she birthed her first child, Knight Jones, Kelis was awarded $44,000 a month in both spousal and child support.
I wonder how her estranged husband, Nas, is taking the verdict.
According to The Associated Press, a Los Angeles Superior Court judge's ruling today is temporary until a follow-up hearing on Sept. 8, when it will be decided if the amount should be altered. In addition to the monthly support, Nas must also pay $45,000 to cover Kelis' attorney fees and for a forensic accountant.
Just who will be responsible for footing the bill for Kelis' prenatal care remains unknown. In papers filed with the court, Kelis claims Nas "abandoned" her during her pregnancy. However, Nas' lawyer says that the Queens rapper paid $30,000 in expenses toward the birth and maintained her health-insurance costs.
Kelis and Nas have been in divorce dispute since April. The papers filed cited irreconcilable differences.
