A television show inspired by Pharrell Williams' high school experience has been picked up by ABC.
"Limelight," an hourlong drama that focuses on students at a New York performing arts high school, was picked up by ABC following a bidding war with other networks that included the CW and FOX, Variety reported. ABC's marketing prowess eventually helped it nab the show from the other networks.
The show is inspired by Williams' high school experience at a performing arts school in Virginia. He is listed as one of the show's consulting producers.
"This project reminded me a lot of my own life growing up, coming from a different environment where we stuck out for having abilities that we later learned, after attending a school like this, were actually gifts and talents," Williams said. "The moral DNA for this project is that it's OK to dream, but to bring it to fruition requires hard work."
McG, the executive producer of the show, felt that Pharrell's experience was perfect for such a show.
"Pharrell is the ultimate embodiment of credibility in this space. He attended a performing arts high school and went on to become the most prolific producer of our generation," McG said.
The show is currently in development. No word yet on an expected air date.
Look at that there. Pharrell's doing some pretty big things. But I guess it's to be expected from the man who brought you Ice Creams 2 for a pair. I can't wait to see it.
